History[]

The demon of the well has resided in the well for many years, spawning various tales about herself. One tale claimed that she was a ghost of a woman who was tricked by a man she had fallen in love with. She went on a walk to cool off, but was chased by rabid dogs. She became lost and arrived at the Yamauchi Temple. Feeling thirsty, she attempted to draw water from the well but accidentally fell into it and died. The belief was that she remained bound to the well, casting a curse upon anyone who approached it.

One evening, a young Shenyong Yamauchi and Douji Sato decided to perform an exorcism at the well, believing the demon that inhabited it was a ghost. As they approached, the demon rose out of the well and they boys instantly turned around to run away out of shock. Douji fell backwards and into the well, and Shenyong turned around to call down to Douji at the bottom. Realizing the demon was still before him watching the event unfold, Shenyong turned around once more and ran off. The demon then pulled the rope to raise an unconscious Douji up and set him down on the ground, disappearing before the boy awoke.

Motto! Ojamajo Doremi[]

For the Yamauchi Temple's annual Test of Courage event at the end of summer, Shinshuu selects the well as the subject. He invites his childhood friend Natsumi, to join him in hosting it as both of their fathers have had a history with it. A small group of their classmates attend and they tell the tale of the Curse of the Well.

The children approach the well and the demon appeared before them. Kotake observes that she has feet, meaning she may not be a ghost after all. Natsumi and Shinshuu step forward and ask if she wasn't human, to which the demon confirmed their suspicions before vanishing for a moment. Nearly all of the remaining children run away screaming, but Doremi trips and falls down. Onpu stops to help her up while Momoko remains collapsed on the ground screaming in shock. Shinshuu and Natsumi continue making eye contact with the demon, whose gaze turned back towards the three remaining girls behind them and realized they weren't normal humans. Natsumi raised her cross up, to which the demon sighed and vanished once more.

Shinshuu and Natsumi instruct the girls to return to the temple while they would go collect the remaining children of their group. As Doremi, Onpu, and Momoko discuss whether they should return or not, the demon reappears above them and asks them to stay and chat with her, as she states she can tell they're not normal humans. The demon clarifies to the girls that the well has delicious water and she only wanted to live within it peacefully. She asks the girls to clear up the misunderstanding with Shinshuu and Natsumi because they keep blaming their fathers' fight on her when she never even cast any curses and now has trouble sleeping. Momoko asks if ghosts sleep too, to which she affirms that she is not a ghost but a demon, and explaining the difference could take all night. The girls continue to ask more questions regarding the tales they heard from Shinshuu, finding none of them to be true. The demon suggested that the girls use magic to find out the real reason why Shinshuu and Natsumi's fathers were fighting.

Doremi, Onpu, and Momoko perform a Magical Stage to see what happened in the past themselves, and the demon joins in with them to watch, playing around with the girls in her own grim sense of humor. After they vision of the past ends, the girls notice their classmates who had ran off before returning to the area, and the demon entrusts the girls to carry out their task before disappearing once more.
