Nozomi "Non" Waku was an ill girl who dreamed of becoming a witch.
Bio[]
Appearance[]
Nozomi had fair skin and periwinkle eyes. Due to chemotherapy, she had lost her hair and wore a shamrock green bandanna with teal print over her head. Nozomi wore mint green pajamas lined in turquoise and sometimes puts on a light orange sweater.
Personality[]
Playful and friendly, Nozomi enjoyed drawing and playing card games with love of magic. Although Nozomi did not seem to worry over her illness, she had concerns over being unable to follow her dream of becoming a witch.
History[]
When Nozomi was in second grade, she visited Maho-Do several times and suspected Majo Rika of being a real witch. During a snowy night before Nozomi was admitted to the hospital, she was lying in her bed with an intense headache. Nozomi made a promise with her mother that once she got better, they'd have a snowball fight and she returned to Maho-Do to let Majo Rika make her a witch apprentice.
Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho![]
While getting hurry to visit Shiori in the hospital, Doremi accidentally entered Nozomi's room after she had cast her own spell to make witches appear. Nozomi giggled at her mistake, to which her mother reminded her that it was rude to laugh at other people. Thinking Nozomi was a boy, Doremi addressed her as "Nozomi-kun", but apologized for doing so.
Doremi immediately took notice to Nozomi's bookshelf next to the bed filled with books about witches. The two girls immediately became close over the subject of witchcraft, with Nozomi telling Doremi her dream of becoming a witch. Genki, another patient staying in the same hospital room, states that Nozomi practices everyday just to be a witch. Natsumi, another patient in the room, states that having a weak body is needed for the training of becoming a witch. Nozomi asks Doremi if she wanted to play a matching game with playing cards as part of training. The girls set it up on a small table as Nozomi's mother enters the room and greets Doremi. As the game starts, Doremi begins to address Nozomi by "Non-chan".
Nozomi showed a thin sketchbook to Doremi containing notes of a spell she came up with, as well as a drawing she made imagining herself as a witch apprentice. It began to snow, and Nozomi mentioned she wishes to become a witch so she could have a snowball fight with her mother or make snowmen with her.
Doremi admired many pictures Nozomi made of herself as a witch, but is worried that Nozomi discovered her secret and would try to not to say anything until she discovered how depressed Nozomi had been before meeting her. When Doremi realized that Non had been starting to lose faith in magic, the girls gave her enough magic to become an Apprentice Witch for one evening. They returned, where Nozomi claimed to be suspicious of Doremi. She was allowed to leave the hospital and cast magic at night. Nozomi played with the girls before thanking Doremi and sleeping.
However, Nozomi's medical conditions got worse, causing her to pass away. Doremi had been running to the hospital to tell her that she spoke to the Witch Queen, who officially allowed her Apprentice rights. She stopped upon seeing Non's mother standing in front of her house, who informed her of the heartbreaking news and gave Doremi the cards Non left behind. Before leaving, Doremi asked Non's mother if they could have a snowball fight in honor of her.

Nozomi does not make a direct appearance in the light novel, but her story is what inspires Hana to become a Doctor in the Witch World after Hazuki told her what happened.
Witch Apprentice[]
Because Non was unable to become a witch on her own, the girls used Magical Stage to grant her wish for the night. Her magic ability was very small as a result, and she didn't have a wand of her own so the girls would help her. Her spell, which she came up with herself, is "Potolila Potolala Puritan Pyantan".
Relationships[]
Nozomi is close to her mother, and wanted to go out to play with her again.
Etymology[]
Waku may be a play on the Japanese word Waku-waku, meaning "exciting".
Nozomi means "wish".

- If Nozomi's drawing was any implication, she might have brown hair before being hospitalized.
- The light novel reveals she died on February 27.
- If the Patisserie costume did not count, her witch uniform is the only one without earrings.
